Paid Program Intern
Work in a creative environment at a midsize non-profit arts education organization. Over the course of the internship period, the intern will have the experience of implementing an entire Youth First Artists-In-Residence (AIR) Program from start to finish. The implementation of an AIR Program consists of interviewing artists for Artist Mentor positions, discussing with school and community site staff the best art-discipline for their site, interviewing site staff bout the distinct population of their students, establishing time tables for program implementation, and discussing with TOHYF Professional Artists how to best design a curriculum for the specific students they will be working with.
In the course of this project, interns will learn to: plan and facilitate meetings with site and artist; design workshops and performances; perform site visits and maintain familiarity with the workshop progress and activity, recruit and research professional Los Angeles artists to add to the TOHYF roster, maintain working knowledge of the California State Standards for the Arts so that they may talk to artists and schools with an informed perspective. As part of the AIR program implementation, interns will also learn how to perform both quantitative and qualitative evaluations for all programs. Intern will be instructed in how to prepare quarterly program reports, assemble and track artist and site contracts, track time sheets and invoices, type up evaluation forms submitted to TOHYF by school staff, and maintain friendly relationships with TOHYF’s roster of professional artists.
The Intern will work closely with the Program Coordinator and Artistic Director in all aspects of program design, progress and reporting. She/he will shadow the Program Coordinator at site visits, collaborative and program-related meetings, and culminating Work-In-Progress Presentations.
Intern duties include, but are not limited to:
