It is with a deep sense of appreciation for his years of service to Providence Christian College that we make you aware of the resignation of our president, Dr. Jim Belcher, effective April 1, 2020.  Jim has been a faithful and enthusiastic champion of the college’s mission and vision over the last six years. Yet in God’s providence, the time has come for our paths to separate.  He will be missed. We know that the Lord has much ahead for both Jim and Providence to accomplish in the work of His Kingdom.

Reflecting on his presidency, Jim leaves us with this message:

In the fall of 2013, having just published In Search of Deep Faith, and having begun work on my third book, Providence contacted me about the Presidential opening. My first reaction was to say no, as I didn’t want to give up my writing. But after much soul searching, and hearing the strong call of God, we took the job, believing we could be helpful to Providence. Now six years later, I believe my job is done; it’s time to pass the baton to the next leader; it’s time to return to my writing; and it’s time to pursue the next challenge in my family’s life. Together, my family and I, look to the future with much joy and anticipation.

It’s been an amazing six years, filled with many challenges, accomplishments, and profound joys. I leave with an unwavering belief in the mission of Providence. It’s been an honor to be part of the college’s mission and the amazing learning community. I am sad to say goodbye, but I plan to stay in touch, as so many of you have become my friends. I pray God continues to bless Providence. I hope and pray the best for Providence is yet to come.

Transition in leadership is never easy. The current national and global Covid19 crisis adds another ripple to the challenges of building a college. Yet in the midst of the uncertainties we all face in the days ahead, the Board of Trustees working closely with senior administration is confident, hopeful and expectant that God has a wonderful plan to preserve, sustain and build Providence Christian College.

We commence a new chapter in the life of the college with a deep commitment to our founding mission and vision, a renewed, refined, and unparalleled academic program and an executive leadership team that is talented, capable, and thoroughly committed to take the college forward.

We believe God has great things in store for Providence and we look forward to sharing them with you in due season. In the meanwhile, we are grateful for your support and your prayers.
