ChristmasProgramThe Providence Christian College Chamber Singers and Instrumental Ensemble will perform their annual Christmas concert on Saturday, December 3rd at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Lake Avenue in Pasadena. The Christmas Concert is free and open to the public for the benefit of the community.

The concert entitled “Soli Deo Gloria” will include the Providence Chamber Singers and Instrumental Ensemble and will be directed by Christina Bristow, professional soprano and Adjunct Professor of Music at Providence. Professor Bristow’s full-time occupation is performing as a soprano with the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

Celebrating both traditional Christmas music and contemporary arrangements, the concert will feature traditional songs including Gloria in Excelsis Deo, O Come All Ye Faithful, and Hark the Herald Angels Sing along with more contemporary holiday songs such as Hush My Babe and Winter Wonderland, according to Bristow.

The Instrumental Ensemble, which includes trumpets, trombone, alto saxophone, piano, and guitar, is set to perform Angels We Have Heard on High, Good Christian Men Rejoice, Away in a Manger and The Grinch.

“It is a lessons and carols type concert with Scripture proclaiming the birth of Christ story,” explains Bristow, who directs both the Instrumental Ensemble and the Chamber Singers at Providence Christian College. “And our Small Group “Jubilate” (pronounced You-Be-La-Tey) will perform the acapella arrangement, Mary, Did You Know? by Pentatonix.

Bristow’s professional career in the Los Angeles Master Chorale has included performances as the soprano soloist for Handel’s Messiah and performances at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Highlights include Mendelsohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream conducted by maestro Gustavo Dudamel and Verdi’s La Traviata. Bristow also performed on the feature film soundtrack to Pixels.

Bristow serves as visiting voice and instrumental instructor at Providence. She received her Masters of Music from the University of Southern California in Vocal Arts/Opera. An active performer within the Los Angeles area, Christian sings with many choral groups and is sought after as a soloist. She is passionate about teaching and also gives private voice lessons to several Providence students who greatly benefit from her training and expertise.

The Chamber Singers have been in existence from the very beginning of the college. Providence enjoys several students each year who come from high schools with excellent choral and music programs, and the most elite of these students form the Chamber Singers. A small yet powerful ensemble of performers, the Chamber Singers perform in a number of churches, fine art nights, and in various concerts each season. Each year begins with a learning intensive retreat followed by twice a week practices to perfect and memorize a wide variety of performance pieces. The Instrumental Ensemble was formed in the fall of 2015 with all the instruments necessary to play a variety of music including jazz, hymns, and contemporary pieces. The instrumental ensemble includes trumpets, trombone, alto saxophone, piano, and guitar.
