Speech Writing Competition

On February 10th 2023, Providence Christian College and the Witherspoon Scholars Program will host the James Madison Speech Writing Competition. The winner will receive the Madison Fellowship, an honor that carries the benefit of a full tuition scholarship.

To sign up, please contact Shane Becker at shaneb@providencecc.edu. All registered students will arrive on Friday, February 10th. They will be treated to a reception dinner on campus followed by a night out in beautiful Old Town Pasadena. All visiting students will be paired with current Witherspoon Scholars as hosts. On Saturday, Students will convene on campus for breakfast where they will dine with select faculty.

The competition will take place later on Saturday morning. Competitors will deliver a speech to a panel of Providence faculty judges on the following topic: As a Gen-Z Christian, what current or future issue facing American culture do you find most pressing that previous generations (millennials, Gen-X, Baby-boomers) aren’t aware of?

All programming will be complete by 3 PM on Saturday the 11th. Please plan on arriving on campus by 5 PM on Friday the 10th of February.

NOTE: All contestants must have completed their Witherspoon applications prior to arrival on campus.
