DR. LAWRENCE McHARGUE

Emeritus Lecturer in Biology

Dr. McHargue began his association with Providence Christian College in 2002 as a member of the Board of Directors and has added teaching duties as a visiting professor of science with the college. Dr. McHargue earned his bachelor’s degree from Occidental College and received a master’s degree from California State University at Los Angeles. He earned a doctorate in botany from the University of California at Irvine. Dr. McHargue began his teaching career as a junior high school science teacher and continued as a teaching assistant at Cal State Los Angeles and a research assistant at UCI. A full-time faculty member at Vanguard University for 37 years, Dr. McHargue achieved emeritus status in 2005. He continues to teach at Vanguard on an occasional basis and has contributed numerous journal articles and book chapters for publication throughout his career.

An active member of the southern California Reformed community, Dr. McHargue serves on the Westminster Seminary, California Board of Trustees and has been a ruling elder in the OPC since 1971—with the exception of one year in 1982-83. Dr. McHargue has three grown daughters and four granddaughters. When he is not busy in the classroom, Dr. McHargue enjoys plant identification, photography (digital and film), camping, traveling, and growing fruit.
