Chuck_RyorProvidence is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Chuck Ryor to his new role at Providence as the Athletic Director. Chuck is a familiar face to Providence, having served as an adjunct faculty member since the early years of the college. He currently is also the lead pastor of Prism Church in Pasadena (www.PrismChurch.com), which is part of the Acts 29 Network. Chuck has always had a passion for athletics and we are excited for him to use his gifts in this capacity at Providence. Dean of Student Life Mark Rippetoe commented, “Chuck’s institutional history, vision for athletics, and strong administrative experience make him ideal to continue building an excellent athletics program.”.

Dr. Ryor will also continue in his role as Adjunct Professor of Communications. He received his PhD from Florida State University, where his research interest was religious rhetoric. His dissertation focused on the religious political rhetoric of former President Ronald Reagan. He has one published book, entitled “Three Tips for Campus Survival: Holding on to your Faith through your College Experience.”

Professor Ryor grew up in the Washington, D.C. area and attended West Virginia University, graduating with a B.S. degree in Journalism. After working for several years in radio, he attended Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida and entered full-time pastoral ministry. He served for 10 years as the Pastor to Students at Wildwood Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee, Florida. Subsequently, he planted CenterPoint Church in Tallahassee where he served as the senior minister for five years there before moving to California.

“Pastor Chuck” and his wife Carolyn live in the Pasadena area and have two children, Nick and Holly. In his spare time Chuck likes to go to Starbucks with this daughter, watch football, watch movies, play golf and ride his Honda 1800 VTX motorcycle.
