Providence Christian College is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Matt Wilson as our new Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach.  As an accomplished distance runner, Matt regularly participates in the Mount Wilson race, the Mount Baldy Race to the Top and the Catalina Half Marathon.

A graduate of Wheaton College, where he was a four-year scholarship cross country runner, Matt also holds an M.A. from Fuller Theological Seminary and has a background in cross-cultural ministry – having served mission stints twice in China, and in both Mongolia and Peru.  Today, Matt’s full-time professional work is in the visual effects industry as a compositor for film and television work. Coach Wilson and his wife, Janet, live in Pasadena with their three children.  He helps out with the children’s ministry and is a member at Lake Avenue Church.

Coach Wilson is a devoted Christian who see the opportunity to make a difference for Christ while helping student-athletes reach their potential. “My goal for the Providence Cross Country program is to foster an encouraging and competitive environment where student-athletes can challenge each other to perform to the best of their abilities.”

This year, the cross country teams added a few new faces with incoming students joining the teams, but the majority of runners are solid returning runners who have participated in cross country in previous years and will lead the team. The teams will be competing in five races in southern California, beginning with the Biola invitational this Saturday.
