IMG_2445Providence is pleased to welcome its second largest incoming group of new students, lifting the total student head count to a new record, with a gain of almost 20 students amounting to an 11% increase in enrollment over last year. Roughly 80 new students arrived at Providence over the past two weeks.

The first group of student-athletes for the men’s and women’s soccer teams and women’s volleyball team arrived on Saturday, August 6 for a very intense few weeks of training camp. In addition, they also enjoyed doing hiking to Switzer Falls and serving the local community alongside Food Forward by picking oranges at The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens. The fruit gathered is donated to local agencies working to feed the communities most vulnerable. The women’s volleyball team also triumphed in their first contest against San Diego Christian College on August 19th.  You can see the full schedule for all upcoming games at www.seabeggars.com.

Members of the baseball team arrived on Wednesday, August 17 to get a head start on the year and to spend time with new head coach Trevor Davidson and assistant coach Cody Walter, a recent Providence grad.

The rest of the new students arrived on Saturday, August 20 and enjoyed having several returning students helping them with unloading cars, moving into residence halls and showing them around campus. Members of student senate, the resident life staff, and members of the first year experience (FYE) program were on hand to welcome new students and begin orientation activities with them.

New students’ home states include Hawaii, Arizona, Washington, Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, and Texas with roughly 70% of students coming from California. International students from Canada and Mexico also began their tenure at Providence this fall. The group departed for a two-day retreat from Sunday to Tuesday in the San Bernardino Mountains in Forest Falls, California.IMG_2447
