Providence Christian College is excited to announce Sam Mahtani as the new coach of the men’s and women’s soccer program for the fall of 2015. The Sea Beggars intend to compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). After several years of considering the addition of intercollegiate soccer, Providence is glad to have Coach Mahtani at the helm of this new program.

Sam MahtaniMahtani brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the program after being a student athlete in the NAIA and NCCAA at Trinity Christian College, before serving as an assistant to the women’s soccer program for over four years. While an assistant at Trinity, the women’s soccer program enjoyed competitive success including berths in the NAIA National Championship in 2011 and the NCCAA National Championships in 2012 and 2013. Coach Mahtani also served on staff for the Illinois Olympic Development Program (ODP) while working at Trinity.

Most recently, he was a head soccer coach at Tennessee Temple University, as well as serving on staff with the Tennessee ODP program.

Mahtani graduated from Trinity with a degree in business management and went on to receive his masters degree from Concordia University-Irvine. His coaching licensing includes a USSF “C” license and NSCAA Goalkeeping license, and has also coached youth camps at the high school level.

Coach Mahtani had this to say regarding his hire:
“First of all I’m excited to be part of the growth here at Providence. But in addition to that excitement, I feel so blessed to be joining a Christian community looking to impact student athletes in their faith. Athletes who choose to play at Providence will be receiving an excellent academic experience, an environment to grow and foster their faith and friendships, and the opportunity to compete in athletics. That’s a mindset Providence and I share, and we are both excited to grow a thriving soccer program here in the heart of Southern California.”
