Dominic-black-and-whiteProvidence Christian College’s board of trustees has unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Dominic A. Aquila as the college’s interim president, effective July 1, 2012.

Dr. Aquila brings a combination of academic and administrative experience in various educational and ministry settings and has served on the board of trustees at Providence since 2008. He earned his Doctorate of Ministry from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA; his Master of Divinity at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS; and his bachelor’s degree at Belhaven College also in Jackson, MS.

He has pastored churches in Richmond, VA; Cerritos, CA; Colorado Springs, CO; and Miami, FL and also has been involved with Christian education at the grade school and high school level through virtue of his children’s education at Valley Christian in Bellflower, CA and other Christian schools.  Dominic and his wife, Davileen, have four children and eleven grandchildren.

Perhaps most vital to Providence’s future is Dr. Aquila’s commitment to sustaining the mission and vision of Providence: “Providence offers a unique educational and biblical opportunity to any student interested in rigorous Christian liberal arts education. I have great confidence that the foundational aspects of Providence have an enduring impact on the lives of young people and in preparing them for a lifetime of service to God and his kingdom. I look forward to leading the renewed commitment of the board to press ahead to ensure that the purpose of Providence is fulfilled as it grows ever stronger.”

Board chair Pete Nanninga stated “It is such a wonderful blessing to have a man with the talents and experience that Dr. Aquila has to lead Providence Christian College during this important period in our history. With his broad background in ministry and academia, and his service on our board of trustees for many years, Dr. Aquila has a deep understanding of Christian higher education as taught from a distinctively Reformed liberal arts perspective. I am sure that his boundless energy, spirit of optimism, and vision for God’s Kingdom will be a valuable addition to our campus life and our broader Providence community.”

Dr. Aquila is currently serving as president of New Geneva Theological Seminary in Colorado Springs, Colorado and will continue his relationship with New Geneva while serving Providence during the search for a permanent CEO.
