Program Highlights
Successful students in the Health Science concentration will:
1. Understand the healthcare policies and delivery systems in the U.S. and global environments.
2. Apply an understanding of medical terminology, scientific inquiry, and research to communicate healthcare principles both orally and in writing.
3. Develop legal and ethical decision-making within the healthcare industry based on a Reformed Christian worldview.
4. Provide caring and compassionate healthcare service and leadership to a culturally-diverse population in our local and global communities.
5. Demonstrate proficiency in the scientific foundations requisite for admission into graduate health care programs of professional study.
Health Science Concentration O erings for Pa icular Areas of Study
Nursing
Are you facing delays in ge ing into a nursing program? Are you on a two-year waiting list? There are two options for you to pursue a nursing degree through the health science concentration at Providence:
1. Pre-Nursing
a. Spend two years at Providence gaining your general education and science prerequisites to transfer to a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) program to complete your clinical nursing coursework for Registered Nursing (RN) eligibility for the NCLEX exam.
b. You can take many of the prerequisites for transfer to a bachelor’s degree in nursing program. During your two years of prerequisites you will be applying to other nursing programs, whose current wait lists are 2-3 years.
2.Obtain a liberal studies degree with a health science concentration and then apply to an entry level program in the state of California for your Master of Science in Nursing
a. The Entry Level MSN program is designed for candidates who hold a non-nursing baccalaureate degree and seek to transition professionally into the field of nursing. Those who have completed all prerequisite courses may apply directly to the EL MSN program. EL MSN students complete Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approved pre-licensure nursing courses designed to prepare the students to take the National Council Licensure Examination, NCLEX-RN. Once licensed as a Registered Nurse, the student completes post-licensure coursework to earn a Master of Science in Nursing.

Pre-Kinesiology
Spend two years at Providence then transfer to Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. You will take 21 units of general electives plus basic Anatomy and Physiology, Physical Conditioning, Health and Wellness, Statistics, and college-level English courses.
Pre-Professional Programs
Pre-Medical Pre-Dentistry Pre-Optometry Pre-Pharmacy Pre-Physican’s Assistant Pre-Physical Therapy
Spend two years at Providence and then transfer to a Bachelor of Science in your chosen pre-professional field. You will take 21 units of general electives plus the required units for your program of study in general education and basic sciences.
